Guild

Guild 284 Aviator, "Our Great Monument To Nothing," 1985 - Pink

$1,550.00

This era, this music, this scene, Our great monument to nothingThis glory, this sweat, this play, Makes no difference what we sayLook into a place that you dare not look, You'll find me staring back at youA perfect reflection, Your mirrorYour representativeI am youThese lyrics were written by the most successful band to emerge from the Atlanta Heavy Metal/Thrash scene in the mid-'80s to mid-'90s. That band was Hallows Eve and they toured the world as Thrash exploded onto a generation of kids that were tired of the bubblegum rock that was being heaped upon them. Living near Atlanta at the time I witnessed this phenomenon firsthand and it led to a lifelong love of heavy music.Hallows Eve's seminal fourth offering, "Monument" was a game changer and title track and their treatment of Queen's "Sheer Heart Attack" is a personal favorite to this day some 40 years later. As it relates to this listing, all of the above was recorded and performed with a Guild S284 Aviator.I've seen my share of Guild guitars but I've never seen a pink S284. This must be some kind of rare bird or possibly a custom order so when I spotted it in a crowded room full of guitar dealers on a recent warm Friday morning, I made my way straight for it.Folks, this Aviator has not been abused and it's in incredible condition for being four decades old. There are some very light surface scratches on the back and a few pintip dings, but you'll have to turn the guitar into the reflection of an overhead light to see them. The most egregious offenders are a visible ding on the upper back edge and the requisite headstock tip chunk. All are pictured. The good news is, this monster has been detailed, set up and sounds like it's fighting the hounds of hell. The pickups? A pair of Jackson J-100s and a J-50N humbucker. Original? I couldn't say but many Guilds of this era had EMGs and remember, it was anything goes back in the '80s so at this point, nothing surprises me.The previous owner must have been either a roadie or a supremely connected fan because the hardshell case has some of the coolest backstage passes ever still attached. I think you'll dig it- from a signed Steve Vai pass to two Heart V.I.P passes, this guy saw it all and I just could not bring myself to take them off. They're part of this guitar's history and provenance. Please take a look at the photos, let us know if you have any questions and as always, we thank you for stopping by!
