Gibson

2001 Gibson Les Paul Studio Lite

$950.00

I am selling this 2001 Les Paul for my Son who does not have the time to market it.  He received it from an acquaintance who has since passed away. It is serial number 01971307, built in 2001 in Memphis. I called Gibson to verify. My Son states that:“No information on guitar prior to me receiving it. John, the last owner, was an elder. He lived in a yurt, off the grid in western PA. One of the most unique and eclectic individuals I have come across in my earth walk. Zero chance of it being stolen. John’s an intellectual and deeply spiritual man. I was surprised he could keep up with a conversation on string theory, this was back when I was in college at Youngstown. I remember thinking to myself, how the hell does some guy that lives in a yurt understand the astronomy and physics that I’m learning about. He used to keep fire for us during the sweat lodges at a friend’s compound in PA. I believe John worked as a crane operator in his earlier years. He passed away from bone and liver cancer, I remember he had 2 different kinds. I was visiting with him and he gave me the guitar as I was leaving. He was giving away most of his possessions at the time. He chose when and how he wanted to pass away. The energy and magnitude of the gift giving lets me know that it was his guitar. The neck was snapped on purpose and reattached to increase its strength”On the neck break, Gibson confirmed that they do not break the neck-headstock area intentionally but acknowledged it is a historical problem with LPs. There are plenty of online sites addressing the issue; a weak spot where the neck and headstock meet. It is caused by the type of wood used, mahogany, and the fact that the wood is carved too thinly there. This particular guitar has been repaired and finish touched up. It plays very well, no hums or buzzes, pots are clean. Cosmetically, I would rate it as a 5, it is not pristine guitar like one sees offered for around $2500. This is a "player" guitar. The neck is dead straight, but the guitar could use a tune-up. If you look closely at the photos of the case, you will notice that a part of the outside area near the headstock has been melted. There is no sign of any impact to the interior or lining, or the guitar itself. It just looks ugly on the outside. My son asks for $950 for this one, open to all reasonable offers, we will wait for the right one.
