1991 (Pre-Factory) PRS Custom 24

This 1991 PRS Custom 24 features all original hardware including "wing" tuners, small-script headstock logo, vintage PRS bridge, original HFS & VB pickups, and 5-way rotary switch. This is an early "vintage" (for PRS) instrument.As a 1991 model, this instrument was built in the original PRS factory in Annapolis, MD (prior to their move to the current facility in Stevensville, MD in 1996). That production year saw a key change in the pickups on the PRS Custom 24 model, which can be observed on this guitar. All original 1991 PRS hardware remains present on this instrument.In mid-late 1991, PRS changed the pickups used on these guitars from their original "Standard Bass" neck and "Standard Treble" bridge pickup to the next generation "Vintage Bass" and "HFS (Hot, Fat, Screaming!)" pickups. This change was complete by November 1991, and the Vintage Bass & HFS pickups are installed on this guitar. These popular items remained the standard pickups for this model until 2007, which makes this particular instrument notable in that the pickups on this guitar were among the very first of their type to be produced.This guitar also features the original smaller, screen-printed signature on the headstock. This indicates that it was made in the earliest "era" of PRS guitar manufacturing. This was the original logo found on the first generation of PRS guitars from its founding in 1985 until an update in approximately 1994 to a "raised sticker" version and changed again in 2007 to the larger inlaid modern/current version. This detail makes the guitar very appealing to PRS collectors.This guitar also features an original set of PRS "winged" locking tuners. These were designed personally by Paul Reed Smith and are the original version (1980's to early 1990's) released on PRS guitars. These were discontinued on the Custom 24 in lieu of later designs, but re-imagined versions of the original wing design have recently made a comeback on some modern PRS models. These are originals.The popularity and quality of the "core" line of PRS guitars have remained largely unchanged since the inception of the Custom 24 (and the PRS Guitar company itself) in 1985. The design, specs, performance, & quality of this model are essentially the same today as in 1991, with only minor design changes in hardware over the past 34 years.
