Gibson

1991 Gibson SG Celebrity

$3,450.00

1991 Gibson SG Celebrity, in excellent all-original condition, ebony finish. The SG Standard Celebrity was part of the 1991 Celebrity Series, along with a Les Paul Standard and Firebird version. Only 200 units of each were produced. This is a late black-on-black variation, as the knobs and pick guard were usually white; some versions released also had double-white pickups without the gold covers. Rounded 60s neck profile; gold Schaller "Gibson Deluxe" tuning machines. "Celebrity Series" logo on back of neck under headstock. Except for some light pick marking on the pick guard and the upper treble bout, some small dents and lights scratches (nothing to the bare wood), this 35-year old Limited Edition SG is in great condition, weighing in at 7 lbs. 4 oz. Great player with evenly balanced pickups (neck measures 8.08K, bridge 8.13K). Original Gibson case is in fairly good condition, but is missing the handle. The rarity of these is understated. The Celebrity Series were limited editions produced for one year only, in 1991. In addition to the SG, there were also Les Paul Standard and Firebird runs. Currently, there is a Celebrity Firebird here on Gbase, with the same black-on-black look as this SG:https://www.gbase.com/gear/gibson-firebird-celebrity-firebird-celebrity-1991-black-blackThere are several other Firebird Celebs on Reverb. We believe that ours may be one of the last of the SG Celebrity Series, mostly because of the black-on-black motif. (If the Reverb listing is still there, [SOLD, LISTING REMOVED] you can see an SG with white pickguard with a gold script "Celebrity" imprint and white knobs, which correspond to the original catalog photos and description, Our pick guard is black, and unprinted with the gold script "Celebrity".) Gibson manufacturing being what it was, they may have run out of the white "Celebrity"-printed ones and threw on a plain black ones with set of knobs to match. All of the gold hardware and other specs are identical to the one that was on Reverb. Some neck spex:Width at nut 1.685 in. 12th fret 2.05 in. Thickness 1st fret .865 in. 12th fret .975 in.Since photos were taken, guitar had gone through a fret level and polish, as well as a complete setup. After some time since sitting idle, frets have taken on some tarnish. NOTE: Our black guitars are incredibly difficult to photograph. Especially in trying to show all of the imperfections and keeping a good color balance on the white parts. In these photos, most of the body areas that show unevenness of color, white streaks or colored patterns are usually showing reflections. Any finish damages, oversprays, touch-ups, spot refinishes or imperfections in color are always addressed in text and shown in photos the best way we know how. Peace.
