1978 Ibanez MC400 DS Musician
$2,199.00
This is a RARE 1978 Ibanez MC-400 Musician in excellent condition. This guitar has had a full workshop inspection and setup, and every component is working perfectly. This is a first-year production model of the line, which was only produced for 3 years. The guitar has only minor cosmetic blemishes despite its 47 years of age! All original hardware and electronics are in perfect working order. This vintage instrument is in fully original, factory configuration with all original hardware and electronics.About this guitar:In 1978, Ibanez was in full swing with exploring new original guitar designs in the wake of the famous 1977 Gibson lawsuit against them for copying American brand guitar designs. The "Musician" series was among the first of the new era of Ibanez designs released in 1978, including the MC-400 model such as this guitar. This series of guitars were fully original Ibanez designs throughout. This one features its original control system with master volume/tone, 3-way master switch, 2x "Tri-Tone" switches that enable coil split/parallel/and series humbucker modes for each pickup. The pickups are the factory original Ibanez-designed Super 88 Humbuckers, sealed in epoxy to eliminate microphonics. This guitar also features an active/passive mode activated by a separate toggle switch and premium "Velve-Tune" tuning machine heads built by Gotoh exclusively for Ibanez. All of these features are factory original. The MC-400 model was the mid-level option in the line, with the MC-300 at a lower price point and the MC-500 as the premium option (carved top vs. flat top). These guitars all feature a Gibraltar-style bridge and quick-change tailpiece with a "cloud" design tail plate. On only the MC-400 and 500 series, the active preamp option was added (which is present and fully functional on this instrument). While the Musician series was considered the pinnacle of Ibanez quality and design at the time, the model was fairly short lived. The Musician series was only produced from 1978 through 1980 with the neck-through construction design like this instrument. Ibanez continued the series up until 1982 with a bolt-on neck version before discontinuing it entirely, and a modified version continued under a different model line. This instrument is a 1978 model, the first year they were available. It is not known exactly how many MC-300 and MC-400 models were produced, but stats for the MC500 indicate that less than 2000 were ever made. It is likely that the MC-300 and -400 models slightly exceed that number, but with only a 3-year production the MC-400 guitar in original, working condition is a rare find on today's vintage guitar market.
