1967 Harmony H56 Rocket - Brown Sunburst
$999.00
Own a piece of history that ROCKS! This original 1967 Harmony H56 Rocket includes nearly all its original hardware and has been professionally restored to perfect playing condition. The instrument's finish has been lovingly preserved to showcase all 58 years of its natural relic but carefully sealed and restored to ensure solid structure and playability for decades to come. John Lennon would be proud to rock this guitar. Why its cool:1) Confirmed manufacture date of around September 1967 (date stamps on body & pickups) - Same year the Beatles released Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.2) Original DeArmond-Rowe gold-foil P-90 pickups, recently wax-potted during our full restoration to eliminate microphonics.3) Features Harmony's "Type W" vibrato bridge (only found on Rocket H56 models, far less common on today's market than H54 hardtail version)4) Made in the USA (Chicago)5) Its a genuine vintage guitar, fully restored and ready to play at an affordable price.About this guitar:The Rocket was among Harmony's most famous guitar models, with several variants released between 1958 and 1973. The name is most likely derived from the "Space Race" that captured public interest during this time period. This guitar is a model H56 Rocket VII made in 1967 at Harmony's guitar factory in Chicago. This is determined conclusively by a stamp inside the "F-hole" of the body, as well as the date stamp on the back of the pickups. Both indicate that this guitar was made in the fall of 1967.Of all the Rocket model variants ever produced, the H56 was the only model to feature Harmony's own "Type W" vibrato bridge and are rare on today's market in comparison to the H54 (hardtail) variant. All other Rocket variants (which are far more common today) feature a trapeze-style bridge/tailpiece. The Type W tremolo bridge is fully intact in excellent condition on this guitar. This model also features an adjustable truss rod, an upgrade introduced in 1966 from earlier fixed steel-rod necks on this product line. This guitar features its original DeArmond-Rowe Gold Foil pickups. These are a high output (for the time period it was built) P-90 style pickup, similar in construction to those found on Gibson guitars of that era. This guitar is also fitted with an original Switchcraft 3-way selector switch and Switchcraft input jack, which are known even today for being top quality USA components (also commonly found on high-end Gibsons). Also of note is that the Rocket models initially featured a single-cutaway (such as this guitar), but phased it out in lieu of the double-cutaway design after 1967. This instrument was produced sometime between September and December of 1967 based on the date stamp (Sept '67) on the pickup, making it among the last single-cutaway Rockets ever produced. This guitar comes with a gig bag.
